Emergency meetings have been held with the National Park authorities and other national and local government officials, and it has been unanimously agreed that the village can be re-located in a safer location elsewhere in the Mae Aeb valley. The National Park authorities had, however, one strict proviso, namely, that all the village must relocate, not just a part of it. There will be some material support from the Government for this relocation, but not nearly enough to cover the costs. The Foundation is monitoring the situation and will put out an emergency appeal for relocation funds, should this prove necessary. |

The Annual Scottish Rite Conferral in Bangkok once again gave a very generous donation to assisting the Educational programmes of the Foundation. This help, which has been going on annually for over ten years, is very much appreciated by the Karen children. |

The Ban Luang Tambon (Sub-district) Adminisitrative Office approached the Foundation with a request to have Infants' Centres built at Ban Khun Klang and Ban Mae Klang Luang inside Doi Inthanon National Park, Chomthong District, Chiangmai. The first of these two villages is Hmong ethnic minority, the second is Karen. The Tambon Administrative Office is able to provide budget for staff salaries, basic equipment and scholastic consumables, as well as daily milk and mid-day meals - but is unable to secure budget for construction and initial outfitting of such Infants' Centres. (See Projects - Education for more details on Infants' Centres) |
